CA generic definition of Assault Weapon:
- A semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
- A pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
- A thumbhole stock.
- A folding or telescoping stock.
- A grenade launcher or flare launcher.
- A flash suppressor.
- A forward pistol grip.
- The Twenty-Seven presents with none of the lettered features; thus is legal for current and continued sale in California, barring further legislation. Just as the Mini-14 does not require a letter of approval; as it possesses none of the criteria to be branded Assault Weapon; nor does the Twenty-Seven. It’s important to note that the Twenty-Seven is not an AR-15. It is a sporting rifle, with a traditional stock, that shares the operating system with the AR-15. Refer to Remington 81, Winchester 100, Remington 740, Browning BAR MKII, FN FNAR, Benelli R-1
- Twenty-Seven reflects similar stock geometry to any classic rifle or shotgun sporter-style style stock. Points naturally, and balances at the trigger guard. Neo-traditional design blends the classic shape and feel, with the advanced tech available to modern semi-automatic rifles.
- All the internals and operating system are the same as Cobalt’s AR-15 models.
- Cobalt has achieved this only by the willingness to re-create the receiver. We innovate. We don’t make guns with a rubber stamp.
- The twenty-seven is only 5.5” from the grip to the picatinny rail. Fits in typical cases and scabbards- quads, horseback, etc… (while fitted with a 5 or 10 rd mag)
- The Twenty-seven gets its model name from the periodic table of elements; Cobalt is number 27. And it was the 27th concept drawn by our engineering department.
- Maintains proper buffer function of the original AR-15. Thus, the reliability of the AR. (SCR has no buffer)
- Maintains accuracy of the AR-15- no compromise as in the case of the Mini-14. (mini shoots really bad)
- Fully configurable stock for length, drop, cheek height.
