Transfer Process Step by Step
The Transfer process is very confusing but we have tried to outline what it takes to transfer a firearm through us. Technically, we will guide you through the whole process, but please try to familiarize yourself with the process in order to reduce delays or denials. The high volume of transfer requests we receive every day necessitates this policy, and without it, it becomes impossible to manage the volume of transfers efficiently. If you have questions feel free to contact us. We can walk you through the process.

GENERAL STEPS FOR OUT OF STATE
AND OUT OF STORE PURCHASES
|
CHECK THE CA ROSTER
- Please make sure that the firearm you want is on the CA Roster. Handguns MUST be on the CA DOJ Approved List
- We recommend that you do this before you complete the transaction with your seller/FFL.
- Here is a link CA DOJ Roster of Handguns (http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/) or contact us with questions.
- Firearms transferred into California MUST be CA Compliant.
- PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Buyer to know and comply with all California laws. Firearms transferred into California must be CA Compliant, no exceptions. Firearms that do not comply with state laws will be returned to the sender at the Buyer's expense.
COMPLETE YOUR TRANSACTION WITH THE SELLER/FFL
- Complete your transaction with the seller/ FFL.
- If there is a question of whether the firearm you are purchasing is legal in the State, please refer to the CA DOJ Roster of Handguns (http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/) or contact us with questions.
- This is essentially your last chance to make sure your firearm is CA Legal before it ships.
- PLEASE NOTE: It is the responsibility of the Buyer to know and comply with all California laws. Firearms transferred into California must be CA Compliant. Firearms that do not comply with state laws will be returned to the sender at the Buyer's expense.
NOTIFICATION AND TRANSFER REQUEST TO BALLISTIC PRECISION
This is to let us know that we should expect a firearm in your name and that we must establish contact with your seller/FFL. If we are not already on file with the selling FFL, please include contact information and instructions and we will contact them with all necessary paperwork required for shipment.
- If you are doing a Dealer Transfer, then after you make your purchase, you must send us an email or fill out our intake form containing at least the following four items:
- Your Full Name.
- Contact information: Phone and/or Email.
- A description of the firearm including Firearm Type/Make/Model .
- If available/applicable, your order number for reference.
- Your seller’s contact information including Phone, Fax and/or Email.
- Your seller’s FFL status (Are they a federal firearms licensee or private party).
- If firearm is from another FFL holder, that FFL holder MUST obtain a shipping approval for the firearm being shipped or the firearm in question cannot be transferred. This is a DOJ California Firearms Licensee Check (CFLC) Program requirement.
- If the firearm is from a private individual (but not CA resident and unable to be present during transfer), the seller must render a copy of his or hers Drivers License and or state ID which includes their valid and current address.
- If however that individual private party ships the firearm through an FFL, the seller still must render a copy of his or hers Drivers License and or state ID along with a letter stating that they have contracted the FFL to ship the firearm in question for them and that they are not a dealer. Additionally, a copy of the sales receipt showing the purchase price, the model of the firearm and lastly the serial number of the firearm must be enclosed in the shipment.
If you are doing a Private Party Transfer (Both CA residents must be present) you will bring in the Bill of Sale. Remember that both parties must bring valid CA identification showing Current Residency. There is no need to email me the info. Firearms received that have NOT been entered into our incoming log book due to failure to contact us prior will not be accepted and will be returned to sender. Buyer will be responsible for all return shipping and handling fees.
INVOICE
For all transactions we require an invoice in order to calculate the Sales Tax. We must have this from your seller/FFL by the first visit.
- FFL Dealer or the Private Party must also provide a detailed Invoice or Bill of Sale showing:
- Customer Name
- Firearm Make/Model/Serial Number
- Price of Firearm
- Shipping Fees
We need this information in order to calculate the proper Sales Tax for the BOE. We will not begin the DROS until we have this info. After we receive your email, we will contact your seller directly to transmit the required documentation and arrange for shipment of the gun . Please remember that we need this information even if we are registered FFL with the retailer and exist in their FFL Directory.
